do a little dance…

Things I learned last night:

1) A vodka sour with either Orange Stoli or Absolut Mandarin is one of the greatest drinks ever created.

2) I’m a much better dancer after a couple of cocktails. Or at least I feel like I am. I guess that’s the beauty of drinking the hooch – you might still suck, but you don’t really care anymore. (Scott, meanwhile, is a very good dancer, who I’m sure has very bruised toes today.)

3) I really thought I hated jazz, but it turns out that I kind of like it when I’m in a dark swanky club with someone who I really like to cuddle up against.

4) Very surprised to learn that Scott can pick me up. I guess most women think of themselves as being heavier than we are, and I’m certainly no exception to that rule. Still shocked the heck out of me.

5) Eric W. was right – the best cure for a hangover really is a packet of Emergen-C and some BC headache powder.

6) The temperature dropped suddenly this weekend & I ended up wearing one of Scott’s sweaters home. Teenie is in love with it, she’s been all over it since the minute I took it off. I promised Scott that I’d give it back, but I think he may have to wrestle the cat for it. Can’t blame her, really – it is a damn comfy sweater.

There’s some other stuff too, but I’m too tired to think of it all right now.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Found out today that Eddie Izzard is playing tonight, tomorrow & Saturday here in Seattle. Part of his “Sexie” 2003 world tour. And it’s sold out. sigh….

Oh well, nothing like missing a show you really, really wanted to see to remind you to update your Ticketmaster.com alerts.

Not much else going on. My mom is stressing me out about my vacation days (i.e., what days I’m going to take off & when), but that whole subject has got me totally bummed out & I don’t really feel like talking about it.

Work is good this week. Last week was slooooooow. I guess people are back from their vacations now & finding all kinds of problems with their computers. I’ve been relatively busy all week. Which is a good thing, because I don’t deal well with boredom. In fact, I’d like to take a moment to thank the hacker(s?) responsible for the creation of all of those viruses that came out during the month of August, because it’s people like them who guarantee my job security.

I’m out of here in 15 minutes, then I’m going to try to summon my strength to go to the gym in this god-awful heat. But more than likely, I’ll end up lying out by the pool with a book. I’m up to #6 in the Stephanie Plum series….

Warning: this is going to be a little incoherent. Not enough caffeine yet this morning.

We didn’t get to see REM yesterday. They have this system of handing out wristbands for the concert on a first-come/first-serve basis, and Scott & I got there after all the wristbands had been handed out (about 2 in the afternoon). We still went to check out Bumbershoot – we just wandered around & watched a couple of the bands on the smaller stages, ate some junk food, and did some people-watching. Things that stand out:

* Seattlites do not hide their pot-smoking in outdoor festival settings at all. We walked past a couple of spots where the aroma could’ve knocked you over. And you’d think that at some point in the past 35 years, someone would’ve told these people that patchouli &/or incense does not help cover the smell. It just smells like pot with other crap mixed in, and it’s kind of nauseating.

* Parents who dress their toddlers in tie-dye t-shirts or little gypsy/pirate outfits should be arrested. It’s just cruel. You know damn well these kids are going to grow up to be corporate tax attorneys because that’s the only way they can rebel against their folks.

* The big fountain near the Seattle Center is awesome on a hot day. Lots of kids running around in it, although the little ones that were running around in nothing but a diaper were the funniest. Dogs seemed to be a little unsure of it for the most part – I think it was a sensory overload for them with the noise of the crowd, the smells of the various food stands AND the water combined. There was one bulldog that kept leaping into the air at the jets of water like he was trying to attack them, which was absolutely hysterical.

* Scott was a very good sport about doing stupid kid stuff with me – we played skee ball & rode the bumper cars. I also got him on the merry-go-round, although I’m sure that wasn’t the highlight of his day. (I haven’t done anything like that since I was little, so I thought it was cool.)

* For all the people who’ve heard me go on rants in the past about how fruit & chocolate should never be combined, I take it all back. There was a stand called Shishkaberry’s, which had chocolate-covered berries on a skewer. We got the one that had strawberries & bananas in dark chocolate. The bananas were just ok, but the strawberries… Wow. Ok, I get it. I was wrong, and I have seen the light.

Anyway, overall it was a cool day. I took a couple of pictures which I’ll try to get posted later. I got a cute one of me & Scott (even though he doesn’t think it’s a good one of him, I beg to differ – he’s too modest).

Back to the grind. Hope everyone else had as fun a weekend as I did.

What is there to write after a 44-hour date? I had a blast. I’m exhausted. I’m smitten (and apparently so is Teenie).

Oh yeah, and tomorrow we’re going to Bumbershoot to see REM. I’m excited.

Good night, folks. Don’t forget to tip your waitresses.

Cindy

P.S. Oh yeah, finally got the pics from the trip to the zoo posted. Let me know what you guys think about that format (listing the pics on a series of pages) vs. the frames I was using before. Thanks.

Man alive, I am tired today….

Ok, yet another awesome date with Scott last night. He came over & I cooked dinner. I know, I know, how very domesticated of me, no? But I figured he cooked for me last time, so don’t call me June Cleaver just yet. I made crab cakes (thanks for that recipe, Mom) and roasted asparagus — I think I oversalted both, but they were edible.

Anyway, he brought me flowers. First time I’ve gotten roses from someone I’m not related to since…. oh hell, who knows. Probably 1997 or something. Major bonus points for that. It was an all-around fabulous evening. I just need to call it a night earlier than midnight next time. At least on work nights.

Ugh. Must find coffee or soda or SOME form of caffeine before my forehead hits the keyboard. Then I get to spend at least an hour of my morning on the phone with Dell, trying to convince them that I do in fact know how to diagnose hardware failures and that the pc I’m working on really does need a replacement hard drive. And a system restore disk, since the customer is stupid & didn’t save theirs. Ah, the glamorous side of my job… Ok, I’m obviously cranky because that type of thing usually doesn’t bother me at all. I swear I really do like my job. But this morning I would like sleep better.

At least I should have time for a nap before yoga tonight.

Oh yeah, happy birthday to Chris G (2 days late).

awesome weekend

Ok, Friday morning started off bad. Remember how I overslept earlier this week? Well, I woke up on Friday morning when my cell phone rang. It was my boss, calling to see where I was. It was 8:40. That does it, I’m buying a back-up alarm clock. Anyway, got to work (by 10 a.m., not bad for a high maintenance gal such as myself) and had a lot of stuff to do with this whole internet worm business. Finally bailed a little after 5. I usually leave at 4, so I guess that was my penance for being 2 hours late.

Now, on Friday night, the original plan was that I was going to see a play with Krissy, because her friend is in it and she promised she’d go see it. I was not entirely keen on this idea, because I don’t know her friend and didn’t know what the play was about. Krissy’s exact description was, “the title is either something-boudoir or something-armoire… I don’t know, there’s some French word in it.” Hmmm… could be racy & sexy, could be about furniture. Who knows? Fabulous. But, Scott very bravely offered to come with, which made me feel a little less sketchy on the whole thing. Even though several friends/family suggested that the 3rd date might be a tad early to subject him to Krissy, since she can be a bit…. mmm, opinionated at times. But hey, I was glad to have the company, so I took him up on it.

Friday evening rolls around, and Krissy calls. She’s been working 14 hour shifts and she was going to have to be back at work at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, and all she wanted to do was sleep. She really did sound exhausted, so I told her to go home & get some rest, and Scott & I would just find some other way to amuse ourselves. As it happens, that was probably the best possible outcome. We went to dinner at Axis (they have fried pickles…. yummy…), had some drinks at a couple of different bars, heard a really awesome Irish folk band, and sat on Scott’s roof deck for a while (awesome views). After I had consumed a little liquid courage, I bullied the first kiss out of Scott (the anticipation thing makes me nervous, I don’t deal well with it), but he didn’t seem to mind too much.

Saturday – today – Scott & I went to the zoo (yes, we double-booked our weekend). That was a lot of fun. The tiger cubs were adorable, although they aren’t exactly cubs at this point. They’re 9 months old, so they’re pretty big. Also saw the baby elephant (I think he’s 2 or 3), and tons of other cute furry things. I took a whole bunch of pictures, I’ll try to get them online soon.

After the zoo, Scott surprised me by cooking me fried catfish. We had talked once about my southern heritage & the fact that you can’t get catfish in the northwest because people laugh at you and say things like “no, we have real fish here.” What can I say, I love my bottom feeders. Anyway, the catfish was really good, and since he didn’t have the exact ingredients for hush puppies, he made little corn bread muffins instead, which kicked ass. We also watched “Chicago”, which neither of us had seen yet. Pretty fun movie. I felt really bad for John C. Reilly, though – he seems to be making a career out of playing the dumb husband whose wife cheats on him (both this & “The Good Girl”). I dig him as an actor, I hope that’s not how he’s going to be typecast.

So there it is. I’ve had a really great time. I know this is the first time I’ve mentioned Scott here, and I’m a little nervous about doing so because I don’t want to jinx anything. But he’s talking about me on his blog, so I figured what the heck. Besides, most everyone who reads this already knows I’ve been seeing him. And he already knows I dig him. So I figure it’s no biggie.

Hope everyone else is having a good weekend too.
