no Sexie pour moi

Found out today that Eddie Izzard is playing tonight, tomorrow & Saturday here in Seattle. Part of his “Sexie” 2003 world tour. And it’s sold out. sigh….

Oh well, nothing like missing a show you really, really wanted to see to remind you to update your Ticketmaster.com alerts.

Not much else going on. My mom is stressing me out about my vacation days (i.e., what days I’m going to take off & when), but that whole subject has got me totally bummed out & I don’t really feel like talking about it.

Work is good this week. Last week was slooooooow. I guess people are back from their vacations now & finding all kinds of problems with their computers. I’ve been relatively busy all week. Which is a good thing, because I don’t deal well with boredom. In fact, I’d like to take a moment to thank the hacker(s?) responsible for the creation of all of those viruses that came out during the month of August, because it’s people like them who guarantee my job security.

I’m out of here in 15 minutes, then I’m going to try to summon my strength to go to the gym in this god-awful heat. But more than likely, I’ll end up lying out by the pool with a book. I’m up to #6 in the Stephanie Plum series….

Warning: this is going to be a little incoherent. Not enough caffeine yet this morning.

We didn’t get to see REM yesterday. They have this system of handing out wristbands for the concert on a first-come/first-serve basis, and Scott & I got there after all the wristbands had been handed out (about 2 in the afternoon). We still went to check out Bumbershoot – we just wandered around & watched a couple of the bands on the smaller stages, ate some junk food, and did some people-watching. Things that stand out:

* Seattlites do not hide their pot-smoking in outdoor festival settings at all. We walked past a couple of spots where the aroma could’ve knocked you over. And you’d think that at some point in the past 35 years, someone would’ve told these people that patchouli &/or incense does not help cover the smell. It just smells like pot with other crap mixed in, and it’s kind of nauseating.

* Parents who dress their toddlers in tie-dye t-shirts or little gypsy/pirate outfits should be arrested. It’s just cruel. You know damn well these kids are going to grow up to be corporate tax attorneys because that’s the only way they can rebel against their folks.

* The big fountain near the Seattle Center is awesome on a hot day. Lots of kids running around in it, although the little ones that were running around in nothing but a diaper were the funniest. Dogs seemed to be a little unsure of it for the most part – I think it was a sensory overload for them with the noise of the crowd, the smells of the various food stands AND the water combined. There was one bulldog that kept leaping into the air at the jets of water like he was trying to attack them, which was absolutely hysterical.

* Scott was a very good sport about doing stupid kid stuff with me – we played skee ball & rode the bumper cars. I also got him on the merry-go-round, although I’m sure that wasn’t the highlight of his day. (I haven’t done anything like that since I was little, so I thought it was cool.)

* For all the people who’ve heard me go on rants in the past about how fruit & chocolate should never be combined, I take it all back. There was a stand called Shishkaberry’s, which had chocolate-covered berries on a skewer. We got the one that had strawberries & bananas in dark chocolate. The bananas were just ok, but the strawberries… Wow. Ok, I get it. I was wrong, and I have seen the light.

Anyway, overall it was a cool day. I took a couple of pictures which I’ll try to get posted later. I got a cute one of me & Scott (even though he doesn’t think it’s a good one of him, I beg to differ – he’s too modest).

Back to the grind. Hope everyone else had as fun a weekend as I did.

not sleeping well in Seattle

Ok, my mom got me hooked on this damn crime fiction series by Janet Evanovich. I’m not usually a fan of the genre, but for some reason I’m really into these. The main character, Stephanie Plum, is a 30 year-old bounty hunter from New Jersey, but she doesn’t like guns or violence, so she ends up on these ridiculous capers trying to track down criminals, and hilarity ensues. Sounds cheesy, I know, but they really are very clever. I’m on the 5th book right now, and last night I stayed up until 12:30 because I just had to read one more chapter. And then one more. And then another…. you get the idea.

So I finally close the book & go to sleep, with the intention of getting up between 5:45 and 6 a.m., as per my usual daily routine. I wake up to Teenie meowing loudly in my ear. I roll over and look at the clock. It says 6:59 a.m. For some reason in my still half-asleep brain, I totally mis-read it. I pet her and say, “Aren’t you sweet, making sure I get up on time…” Then it hits me. 6:59 a.m., not 5:59 a.m. CRAP!! I overslept an hour. I hate rushing in the morning. Throws me off for the rest of the day.

Point being: I love my cat, but I wish I could figure out a way to reset her internal “time to wake up mommy” clock to maybe 6:10, so I don’t oversleep quite so bad. But then, I also want to figure out a way to turn OFF her internal alarm clock on the weekends, so I guess I’m probably demanding too much. She is just a cat, after all.

Also, the last dream that I had before I woke up was that I had been kidnapped and these bad people had tied me up & injected me with crystal meth. Then they let me go, and I ran into my best friend from kindergarten, Carrie Buckley (who I haven’t seen in real life for over a decade), and in the dream she had a little girl with her & she was pregnant with her 2nd child. Her mom & my mom were there too. I was trying to pull my mom aside to ask her to inject me with this antidote stuff that was supposed to get rid of the crystal meth in my system, but I wanted to be discreet because I didn’t want Carrie, her mom, or her child to hear that I was on drugs. Sharon Osbourne was there at some point too, with a whole bunch of yappy little dogs following in her wake.

Moral of the story: no more artichoke & parmesan dip on Ritz crackers before bed. 😛
