There’s this weird thing about the weather in Seattle. It rains, but we almost never have thunder & lightning. In fact, it very rarely really rains. Typically it just drizzles or mists, and even that’s only in the winter. Sorry to shatter that little meteorological stereotype, but it’s true. I think that rumor about “it rains all the time in Seattle” was secretly devised to keep everyone in the country from wanting to move here. Anyway, the cloudy/drizzly weather started sometime in the past week or two, and it’s been nice because it feels weird when it’s sunny & warm for too long here. Now when it’s overcast & 55 degrees, it’s more like… ahh, balance has been restored to the universe at last.
Anyway, I was sitting in my apartment tonight, and I heard thunder. I got so excited about it because I miss it — I know that sounds odd, but actually most of the people that I’ve met here who are from other parts of the U.S. also comment on the fact that they miss the drama of thunderstorms. Anyway, I was listening and enjoying it for a minute or two, then I realized that it’s not thunder at all.
What was it, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you….
The guy upstairs is moving furniture around.
Damn.
Now I’m just annoyed with the noise, I can’t even pretend that it’s thunder so I can enjoy it.
And on that note, I’m off to lie in bed, where I can freely sulk about noisy neighbors and silent weather clouds.
