a good Monday

I don’t usually have nice things to say on Mondays. I especially don’t have nice things to say when I’m sick and have almost lost my voice entirely. But two very good things happened today:

1. I took Catie for her first appointment with a counselor. She was mostly interested in the fact that the therapist had toys in her office, but the two of them seemed to hit it off really well. I’m going to take it as a good sign that she cried when it was time to leave. We’re going back next week.

2. I have a house! I was really stressed about finding a rental house here, because they seem to get snatched up before I could even see one. But this house became available last week, and after I saw it, I immediately filled out an application to lease it.

If I was looking to buy a place, I would’ve been turned off by the powder blue siding. And a lot of the inside is dated (fruit-themed wallpaper in the kitchen, etc.). But it’s a rental, so I don’t care. Hell, maybe I need some pastel cheeriness in my life right now. It has all the spaces that I need – a playroom for the girls, an office for me, etc. It’s surrounded by enormous shade trees. It’s an area that’s full of little kids, and there’s a neighborhood playground within walking distance.

And, it’s exactly 1.6 miles from my parents’ new house.

So it’s perfect. I’m really excited to get us into our new space, and start working on setting up our new little life.

  1. I can’t get over how well things are falling into place for you…and I’m so happy to hear it.

You never know if the landlord might be open to letting you de-fruit the kitchen (if DIY is your thing). I bet the blue exterior looks really pretty in the springtime, even if it’s a little clashy with the autumn leaves. If not, just tell yourself you’re living in an Easter egg!

I hope you feel better soon. I can’t believe all you’ve accomplished on top of being sick! You are just an amazing mom.

  2. So glad to hear that things are going better for you. Hats off to you for taking Catie to see a counselor. This is a lot for a tiny girl to hanlde, heck it is a lot for a big girl to handle. I am glad that she will have a place where she can really let all those feelings out and start to make some sense of things. Play therapy is a great tool for this type of situation! (OK full disclosure, my occupation is as a play therapist, so my opinion my be biased. But a well informed biased.)

  3. Yay! I’m so glad you found a house. It looks perfect, powder blue siding and all 😉

I’m so happy that Catie and her therapist hit it off. I really hope having someone to talk to helps her.

  4. ya know…SOMEBODY has to live in the blue house…LOL it looks warm and cozy…and blue is soothing…so yes, right now you need soothing.

things seem to be working out…and YES for grandparents being so very close.

life moves forward…and you are doing splendidly.

  5. And it has a driveway perfect for sidewalk chalk and bubbles!!

I’m so happy things are falling into place for you. Crazy inside wallpaper and all. I got lucky with my apartment too. My roommate’s parents own the apartment complex. After five months of searching the tenant got kicked out and a unit opened up. We took one look, had a discussion with her parents (they worried that if she ran into money problems the first thing she would balk on would be rent) and moved in. They even let us paint the rooms. And bring our cats.

Good things come to those who deserve it and after the crap-hole time we’ve had (I haven’t mentioned anything recently) we’ve deserved it, you SO much more than me!

And I am so so SO happy Catie and her therapist hit it off!!!!

  6. This is so much good news. Maybe you can get some nice vintage Gail Pittman pieces to coordinate with the fruit on the walls 😉
