the dress, and shoe shopping (part two)

I had my first dress fitting yesterday. It needs a hem and it’s a little too big in the shoulders, but other than that, it’s perfect. And those are pretty minor alterations, really. Plus, it makes me look like I have boobs, so yay for the magic dress. The first time I tried it on, I stared at myself in the mirror until the saleslady came to check on me. So I think it’s safe to say that I love-love-love it.

However, one sad note about my $20 shoes that I was so excited about: they totally don’t work with the dress. The straps are too chunky, I need something a bit more delicate-looking. And they’re also way too white for an ivory dress. Sigh. The jewelry I bought doesn’t work either, but I kept all the tags on that because I figured that I’d end up returning it, and I was right. Anyway, I’ve been looking for shoes online all morning, and I can’t find anything I like that (a) comes in ivory and (b) looks delicate. Or rather, the few things that I can find are those pointy-toed shoes, and I am just not a pointy-toed kind of girl. Damn, damn, damn. I guess that means I’ll be back to shoe-shopping over the weekend. Which is fine, I’m just not a huge fan of the mall. And I really don’t want to end up with those satin dyed shoes, because those things are absolute murder on the feet. Ugh.

Ok, happy news:
* The septic tank is all fixed! And it didn’t cost $10K like we were afraid it might! Now we should be able to proceed with the home equity loan! And now I can freely flush and not wonder about where it’s going! Hooray!
* The lumber for our deck is being delivered this afternoon.
* We hired a photographer for our wedding. Special shout-out to Angie for giving me a list of tips and things to ask when hiring a photographer, which I otherwise would’ve been totally clueless about.
* Dave and I are going to apply for our marriage license this afternoon. Should be fun. In much the same way that a trip to the Department of Motor Vehicles is fun. I think I might bring a book. And maybe my iPod.

  1. The Department of Licensing isn't such a bad place to go. They're fairly streamlined now. It's too bad you can't just pick up a marriage license at the sporting goods counter at Big 5 though.I think the coolest wedding I've ever been to was one wherein everyone, including the guests, wore white and the bride didn't bother to wear any shoes at all.

  2. I was looking on Zappos, and I found a couple of things that I like, but I'm scared to order shoes online because my feet are never a consistent size (sometimes 8, sometimes 8 1/2) and I can never predict what will work for me. I guess I can order a bunch and return what I don't want, but that seems like sort of a hassle. My mom actually suggested that I go barefoot. Right. It's not gonna happen. Since there is only one place to get a marriage license on the eastside (in Sammamish), and it's only open on Thursdays from 1:00 to 7:00, I'm expecting there to be quite a line.

  3. I didn't realize you had been to Zappos already. I buy a lot of shoes from them. Returns are easy, I have ordered two sizes to be sure I get the perfect fit.

  4. Woo hoo for the photographer! Good choice, good choice. What about ballet flats? or ballet slippers? I had a friend wear them, I can ask where she got them.

  5. You could wear your something blue on your feet, thus negating the too white/ivory problem. Remember: you're the bride and you can do whatever the hell you want!

  6. Oh the joy of being the man at a wedding! Black shoes? Yep they're fine. Black pants? Yep they're great. Nice jacket? Perfect. Cravat? Go on then. Jobs a goodun. Colour clash? Not for me!
