first day of 28th year

I guess you could say I had a little mood crisis yesterday about my birthday, so I decided that chopping my hair off would make me feel better. One of those typically-female “change my hair, change my life” kind of thought processes, I guess. Anyway, here are the before & after pictures. I think I probably look better in the before picture, but that’s because it was taken last night right before we went out for my birthday. And then I got an hour-long massage after my haircut this afternoon, so I didn’t really feel like re-applying my make-up & getting all fancy for the after picture. But trust me, this is an improvement. And it’s going to be hugely popular in the low-maintenance department. I was sick of spending half an hour every day working on my stupid hair and still not being happy with it.

Anyway, I had a pretty good birthday — Nate & I went to dinner at a nice seafood place, it was pretty mellow. And I did much better than I was expecting gift-wise. I got gift certificates from both Tracy & Nate (to Amazon.com and the local mall, respectively), which is my favorite type of present. Nate also gave me a can of yellow corn, because it’s a well-known fact that I despise corn. I can’t even pretend to eat it to be polite. If I accidentally take a bite of something with corn in it, my throat will close up & I’ll start to gag. So I guess he was going for a literal “gag” gift. Very clever.

Oh, and Scott is getting me tickets to see Henry Rollins in March, so he’s way up on my list of favorite people too.

Today, before the haircut & massage, I went to see “Big Fish” with Chris G. It was good. My favorite Tim Burton movie has always been “Beetlejuice” and I don’t see that changing any time soon, but this was a good movie. Not exceptional — I think maybe it had been a little overhyped for me — but I enjoyed it.
